Check Device Signal Strength

You will need to check the signal strength of a sensor or Repeater if you receive multiple service alerts indicating that the device is offline.

You must be an Administrator to view the topology report containing device signal strength.

You need a magnetic tag to check the signal strength of a device. The tag could interfere with heart pacemakers and implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs).

  1. Log in to the Control Centre.

  2. Go to Automated Monitoring Devices>View/Edit.

  3. Select the Hub that the sensor or Repeater is connected to.

  4. Click Maintenance.

  5. Click Topology. You will see a list of sensors and any Repeaters connected to the Hub.

  6. (If applicable) Click the chevron icon to the right of a Repeater to view sensors routing through it.

  7. Press a magnetic tag on the bottom left corner of the device for approximately 3 seconds. You will see a flashing green Mode LED. When the Mode LED turns flashing amber, remove the magnetic tag. See image 1.

  8. View the signal strength on screen. You will see a percentage (e.g. 52%), and a summary (e.g. good, average, marginal, poor).

  9. (Optional) For more details, click the signal icon on the device displayed on screen to view the latest, average, maximum, and minimum:

    • Strength - the general signal strength

    • Link Quality Indicator (LQI) - how good the connection is

    • Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) - how strong the signal is

If a sensor or Repeater has poor signal strength, please ensure that:

  • items are not blocking the signal to the Hub

  • the device has not been moved
