Update to Supported Sensor Life

Following recent testing, we have extended the supported service life of our Cold sensors and Sensor+ from 2 years to 5 years.

Our testing and analysis considered the key factors that affect sensor performance over time, including battery performance, device reliability, and measurement accuracy and stability. The results demonstrated that these sensors can continue to meet the required performance standards throughout the extended 5-year lifetime.

This means that the battery life and calibration of these sensors support their 5-year service life.

Your existing sensors can therefore remain in service for longer, reducing the need for routine sensor replacement visits and the associated disruption. There is no change to how your sensors operate or how you use the Checkit system.

Our updated sensor service life is:

Sensor

Typical use

Supported service life

Cold sensors

Fridges and freezers

5 years

Sensor+

Sensors with an external probe

5 years

Hot sensors

Hot-hold units

2 years

Ongoing sensor support

You do not need to take any action as a result of the extended service life. Checkit will continue to:

  • Monitor the age of your installed sensors and contact you when they are approaching the end of their supported service life to arrange their planned replacement.

  • Review sensor performance and battery-life data to ensure sensors continue to perform as expected.

  • Replace individual sensors that fail before they are due for replacement.

  • Contact you and arrange an earlier replacement if our ongoing monitoring indicates that a sensor needs to be replaced sooner than planned.

Calibration expiry date

As part of this change, we have removed the previously displayed calibration expiry dates from the Control Centre. These dates assumed the same 2-year period for all sensors and may not reflect the supported service life of the sensor or your organisation’s own recalibration requirements.

Calibration is valid for the duration of a sensor’s lifetime. However, if your organisation chooses to recalibrate sensors earlier or more frequently, you can use the date the sensor was installed (displayed in the Control Centre) together with your organisation’s recalibration cycle to determine when replacement is due.
