SenseFlex Range: Step 2 - Plan Device Placement
Follow the steps below to plan where you will install sensors and the Cloud Connector.
Plan Sensor Placement
Decide where you intend to place the sensors.
When planning where to place sensors, bear in mind the following factors:
Proximity to the Cloud Connector
Items which may obstruct the signal between a sensor and Cloud Connector
The temperature of the environment
The humidity of the environment
See Types of Sensors for technical specifications, including range and ambient operating conditions.
PT1000 Sensors consist of an external probe, which is placed inside the unit and a transmitter, which is mounted outside. The two parts are connected by a cable. Bear in mind that you will need to thread the cable through the unit door or make modifications to the unit as necessary.
If sensors are within range of multiple Cloud Connectors, the sensors will automatically connect to the one with the optimal signal strength at that moment.
If you have a floor plan, mark the sensor placements to know where coverage is needed. The map will also work as a future reference if maintenance or changes to the installation are required. Alternatively, make a list of sensor locations.
Plan Cloud Connector Placement
Decide where you intend to place the Cloud Connector.
When planning where to place the Cloud Connector, bear in mind the following factors:
Proximity to a power outlet
You can also power the Cloud Connector using a Power over Ethernet (PoE) splitter in addition to or instead of using the power cable. Contact us if you require a PoE splitter.
Proximity to an open Ethernet port (if you intend to connect to the internet via Ethernet)
Cellular coverage (If you intend to connect to the internet via cellular connectivity)
Download free apps such as OpenSignal and nPerf to test the cellular coverage on your site.
Proximity to sensors (ideally, the Cloud Connector should be approximately equidistant to all sensors; however, it may need to be placed closer to some sensors if there are obstructions such as walls, doors, objects, etc.)
The temperature of the environment
The humidity of the environment
See Cloud Connector Technical Specification for details, including ambient operating conditions.
The Cloud Connector can be mounted to a wall/ceiling or suspended from a drop ceiling.
If you have a floor plan, mark the Cloud Connector placement. The map will also work as a future reference if maintenance or changes to the installation are required.
